Steve is the Founding Partner of Roots Recruiting. Roots is an executive search firm focused on legal and compliance roles within the asset management industry.
Prior to founding Roots, Steve spent 13 years building, managing and eventually selling a successful recruiting firm focused on non-investment related hires within the investment management industry. In addition to running firm-wide operations, Steve was directly involved in over 400 legal and compliance placements, including a number of high profile retained Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel roles. His former clients include long/short, event-driven, global macro, quant, distressed and multi strategy hedge funds. Steve also worked with private equity funds with strategies that included buyout, venture, growth equity, distressed debt, secondary and infrastructure. Clients ranged from $100 million to $300 billion in AUM.
Steve has served as an expert witness in legal cases involving asset management and is a frequent speaker at recruiting conferences.
Steve is a graduate of Pace University, where he received a B.S. in Finance. He splits time between New York City and Southern California, where he lives with his wife and two dogs.
